Our Business Pathway is created to develop an entrepreneurial mindset in students. Through the business curriculum, students develop a sense of ownership for their learning and the importance of responsibility. Additionally, students explore career pathways that are in high demand and unlock their opportunities for success.
The classroom curriculum focuses on:
“Our goal is to prepare students for the real-world and provide them with experiences that were otherwise unavailable to them. The program helps them find themselves and gives them the opportunity to do something outside-the-box.”
Roxanne Turner, Business Teacher at DEA
Our Business Pathway includes a variety of programs that offer access to opportunities that develop career-readiness from a student’s first entry point into the school system.
Hantz Foundation launched its first business program in Detroit Enterprise Academy, where classroom learning involves developing a business plan and key skills like customer service and communication. To reinforce coursework, students hear from top business leaders through the Declare Detroit Speaker Series, a regular opportunity for relevant speakers to inspire students by sharing their path to success.
In addition to classroom learning, Hantz Foundation provides real-world experience through internships with Quicken Loans, Meridian Healthcare, and Comerica Bank. We work to connect students to summer job opportunities that bolster their work experience and confidence, and prepare them for a successful future.
Hantz Foundation’s programming focuses on the agricultural industry and manufacturing where regional job opportunities are in the highest demand. Our partnership with Entrepreneurship Through Agriculture enables students to explore careers in farming through hand-on experiences. By preparing students for high wage, skilled jobs in demanding industries we can bring economic stability to our community. As the program grows we will offer a list of Career and Technical Education (CTE) aligned courses through our nationally-competitive CTE program to equip students with skills training needed for demanding industry employment. The course list for the CTE program is in development and will launch in the fall of 2018.
